OMAD is somewhat of a more extreme version of intermittent fasting. It has its own set of concepts and why people may choose to do it. The following are:

  • Better fat burning during extended fasting
  • Potential improvement in insulin sensitivity

Why choose OMAD?

Although it is a heavily restricted diet paired with extreme times for feeding, there are reasons why people might choose to do OMAD. The following are:

  • Simple implementation: Easy to follow and minimal planning
  • Potential for rapid weight loss: In a shorter period, it helps lose those calories
  • Reduced decision fatigue: No need to decide when to eat and what to eat
  • Cutting cost for food prices: Since it is a meal a day, it cuts costs for potential snacks or other meals
  • Increased cellular cleaning processes

Decision Fatigue: Everyone has the energy to decide things throughout the day but the more decisions are made, energy is consumed. And doing many little decisions in a day may drain and lead to decision fatigue.

Dieting is never a sustainable habit or a change that will bring us closer to our goals. Instead, we should treat them as tools. If we have a wound, our main priority should be healing back up with different factors. One can be which be a handiplast to help promote recovery for a while. The same applies to dieting, we should use it when we need to achieve a goal. A more sustainable approach is to change the lifestyle we have.

What if you want to try a diet but OMAD is too extreme? There are many that you can follow but if you want a loosely connected alternative, you can try:
