How will my morning routine help me?

Mornings are the start of our day, and when the start is productive and positive, it automatically kicks off our day well. Imagine a good cup of coffee, taking the dog out, and a warm shower. Wouldn’t that give you the sense of achieving one goal of the day? As noted by NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness), following a morning routine can make you more productive, increase your energy, and provide your brain enough time to reach its peak for cognitive work.

Let’s say having a morning routine is like a cold start for the brain and body to perform it’s best throughout the day.

How do you have a morning routine?

A good morning routine needs to be personalized. Following someone else’s routine is like running a race you are not a part of. To create a routine, know yourself and your needs. Ask yourself these questions to guide you.

  • What is your one goal in the morning?
  • How much time can you afford for yourself in the morning?
  • What habits have you had a hard time working on in the past?
  • What do you want to be the non-negotiables in your routine?
  • Do you need a quiet or an active start to your day?
  • What is one thing you’d love to add to your day but haven’t had the time for?
  • What breakfast options excite you for the day?

After you have examined your life and know which areas to put the most energy on, you will be able to create a routine that serves you. If you are still unsure or want to start simply, we have created a simple routine that you can follow regardless of how busy you get when the alarm wakes you up!

The Morning routine that works for everyone in just 5 steps

1. Wake up early: When you rise early every day, you get more time for yourself that you can use to get ready for the day. Doing it gradually makes it a habit. So, don’t snooze! If you need inspiration, Jennifer Aniston loves to wake up early, have warm water with lemon, and spend time with herself before work.

2. Make your bed: One unavoidable task is making your bed. Making your bed gives a sense of accomplishment, a sense of calm. A 2017 book called Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life… And Maybe the World. McRaven mentions the idea that making your bed sets you up for success.

3. Recite affirmations: Our brain believes what we tell it; affirmations help rewire our brain from negative thoughts. It reprograms our subconscious mind; saying affirmations out loud in the morning guides us in starting the day right and confident.

4. Have your breakfast: Believe it or not, breakfast is the most important meal of your day. It provides you with energy for your long day. Breakfast improves your concentration levels. When your stomach is happy, so are you.

5. Make an effort on how you look: We don’t feel good when the hair is greasy or our face is puffy. Spending time on how you look every morning boosts your confidence. Your appearance plays a big part in how you feel, so make an effort for it, whether it be by working out, getting out of sweats, or making sure you look put together; it is a game-changer.

These are 5 valuable things to do when you rise and shine. When making this routine a habit, you will gradually develop a positive mindset, kickstart your day with a clean slate, and applaud yourself for even the smallest achievements. Make your routine and stick to it. Consistently making an effort for yourself will come back in positive ways. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself!
